Our family made the six hour road trip from Hampton Roads, Virginia area to Banner Elk, North Carolina for our annual summer vacation.
We love to escape the Virginia heat and head to the mountains for cooler temperatures. Banner Elk sits at over 3,700 feet where average temperatures hover around 75 degrees in July. It is delightful!
This week-long adventure included a ton of fun outdoor activities. One of our favorites was Sky Valley Zip Tours. First, let me tell you a little bit about Sky Valley Zip Tours and what sold me to select their tour among other options.
Sky Valley Zip Tours is Boone & Blowing Rock's highest rated zipline! The facility provides over 140 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains. One can experience the High Country from 300 feet above the valley as you fly across their exhilarating signature zip line, Big Mama at 1,600 feet!

ABOUT OUR EXPERIENCE AT SKY VALLEY ZIP TOURS
This is not my family in the picture as it was not feasible to bring a camera along on our journey, however, our trip started as promised with a short ATV Ride in the beautiful forest to the start of our zipline adventure.
We arrived at a station where we went over safety procedures with our two awesome guides. We also had two practice ziplines where we went over what we learned before heading to the big time zips of Sky Valley.
Our guides were fantastic! They were personable, excited to give us a wonderful experience, and made us feel safe during the entire journey.
We were able to experience 10 different views of the High Country. It was incredible. This was only our second time ziplining. My kids are ages 14 and 17 and they loved every minute of it! Our favorite was definitely Big Mamma as we were all fans of the height and speeds. The guides were great and took pictures throughout our experience.
I mentioned that Sky Valley Zip Tours does some fun extra adventures included. One of those was the cliff jump, pictured above, where you enjoy the view as you descend by cliff rappel in the heart of the course. This was really fun.
The other added adventure was the swinging bridge. This was really fun and challenging. Our guides challenged us to walk across with no hands....no one accomplished this but our guide.
It was much more difficult than it looked. You are about 50 feet above the ground while enjoying the serene view of the 35-foot tall cascading waterfall surrounded by trees. This 120-foot long bridge literally takes you to new heights.
Sky Valley Zip Tours also offers Night Ziplining which sounds incredible. We did not get an opportunity to do this but the guides said it is pretty magical. If you get an opportunity to give this a try, I would highly recommend it. Night Flight tours are now available on weekends starting at 9PM.
