On January 9, 2025, a remarkable new resort officially opened its doors in Deer Valley, Utah—intentionally built with military families at the heart of its mission. The Grand Hyatt Deer Valley East Village is more than a luxury mountain getaway; it’s part of a groundbreaking partnership aimed at giving service members, eligible veterans, and their families access to affordable, high-end recreation in one of the nation’s premier ski destinations.
Built for the Military—A First-of-Its-Kind Resort
This is the first-ever public-private military hotel. The development of the MWR hotel has been in the works for two decades. In the late 1990s, a small military MWR ski lodge near Snowbasin Resort in Huntsville, Utah, closed in preparation for the 2002 Winter Olympics. In 2001, Congress passed legislation granting a federally-owned, 26-acre parcel in Park City, Utah, to the Air Force, on which to either construct a new MWR facility or trade for other property of equal value. The Grand Hyatt Deer Valley was developed through a unique public-private partnership led by Utah’s Military Installation Development Authority (MIDA) in collaboration with Extell Development Company of New York.
Unlike traditional military resorts that are exclusive to military guests, the Grand Hyatt is open to the public—but only eligible military guests can access exclusive, heavily discounted rates through the Salute to Service program.
During peak ski season, nightly rates for the general public can range from $750 to $2,750, but eligible military members and families can book one of the 100 designated military rooms (out of 387 total) at a fraction of the cost.
Room rates through the Salute to Service program are based on availability, rank, and travel dates, and are subject to change. Some dates may be more expensive than others, depending on demand and eligibility tier.
To give you an example of the potential savings:
For a stay Saturday, February 7, 2026, I priced out a King Room for various ranks:
-
E1–E6: The room rate was approximately $125 per night including taxes and fees.
- E7-E9: The salute to service room rate was approximately $196 including taxes and fees.
-
O4–O10, CW4–CW5, and DoD employees: The salute to service room rate was approximately $231 including taxes and fees.
-
Standard civilian rate for a King Room was approximately $1236 including taxes and fees.
**These prices are just examples and are subject to change, but they clearly show the significant savings available to eligible military members and DoD personnel.
This is an incredible opportunity for military members and their families to enjoy this incredible resort at amazing prices!

Outdoor fire pits and gathering spaces
It’s everything you’d expect from a Grand Hyatt—combined with the camaraderie and comfort of a military-friendly environment. The resort is also pet-friendly which is great.
Grand Hyatt Deer Valley is also pleased to provide, subject to availability, the following special amenities to eligible military patrons who book a qualified MWR rate:
- A dedicated concierge lounge for Salute to Service guests, North Star, located directly off the lobby
- Discounted Deer Valley Resort ski day passes can be purchased onsite, upon your arrival
- A Kids’ Club and separate Nexus Lounge game room open to all guests
- Discount on the prevailing resort fee (discount percentage and inclusions subject to change)
- 20% off food and beverage (excludes alcohol)
Certain times of the year may see higher rates. Below are times where you may see a higher rate compared to other dates:
- Festive Weeks, meaning the 2 (full) weeks within which Christmas and New Year’s Day occur, recognizing a Saturday to Saturday or Friday to Friday duration for minimums.
- MLK holiday weekend
- Sundance Film Festival time period (or any similar successive festival)
- Presidents’ Day holiday weekend
Discounted Skiing at Deer Valley—and More to Come
Though the Grand Hyatt will eventually evolve into a four-season destination with hiking, biking, golfing and more, its early phase is centered on world-class skiing at Deer Valley, a skier-only mountain known for impeccable grooming and top-tier guest service.
The savings don’t stop with the room. Deer Valley is offering steep lift ticket discounts exclusively for military guests staying at the Grand Hyatt. A regular peak-season day pass, which typically runs $329, is reduced to just $85—that’s about 75% off through the Salute to Service program. Their website states that you will get your military discounted tickets upon arrival. I would call the resort and verify pricing for 2025/26 season and also ask how to request your tickets as most ski areas only allot so many ski tickets per day to avoid overcrowding.
Not staying at the hotel? You can still save: Deer Valley provides a 25% military discount on lift tickets for active duty, reserve, honorably discharged, or retired military members, as well as their spouses and dependents.
Other Ski Discounts: Consider grabbing your EPIC PASS to enjoy incredible military savings at Park City ski resorts. You can learn more about the Military Epic Pass here!
To help military families fully enjoy their time, the hotel offers a shuttle in development that will eventually connect guests to Park City Mountain, offering expanded ski terrain and even more adventure.
And when the day winds down, military guests can gather in the North Star Lounge, a private space within the hotel created specifically for service members to relax, connect, and enjoy a sense of community.
This resort represents a bold new vision: bringing five-star experiences to the military community at a price they can afford. Whether you’re planning a winter ski trip, a romantic mountain retreat, or a getaway with the kids, Grand Hyatt Deer Valley promises luxury, adventure, and rest—in honor of your service.
